These days, pushing the sartorial envelope on the red carpet while also remaining appropriate and unforgettably chic is no easy task, yet stylist Penny Lovell seems to nail an elegantly edgy look on each of her star clients, every single time.
The British born, Los Angeles-based Power Stylist (she was named to The Hollywood Reporter’s Top 25 Power Stylists for the past two years), started her career styling magazine editorials and upon working with Keira Knightly on a photo shoot, promptly began dressing the actress for her numerous appearances.
Years later, she has added Anne Hathaway, Rose Byrne, Taylor Schilling, Bella Heathcote and Olivia Cooke to her client roster, bringing her impressive aesthetic (who can forget the immaculate white Elie Saab jumpsuit Byrne wore to the 2012 SAG awards that cemented her as a style setter?), to every event she is tasked with creating a look for.
Here, Lovell shares her Insider perspective on this Sunday’s Emmys, plus the celebrities she is looking forward to seeing hit the red carpet this awards season.

Beladora: Who are you dressing for the Emmys this year? And what is your general approach to the Emmys as opposed to other awards shows?
Penny Lovell: I’m dressing Taylor Schilling. The Emmys is great fun, it’s usually very hot in September and since the date is just after vacation season, everyone feels more relaxed than the awards shows later on. My approach is the same as with all shows though, which is just to make sure the ladies feel and look great on the day.
B: Have you always loved jewelry and accessories? What was your first experience realizing they could really change an entire outfit?
PL: I love jewelry. It’s game changing. A simple look can have a totally different feel depending on how you accessorize. It can go from edgy to pretty in a second. I can easily spend as much time looking for jewelry as I do for the dress.

B: Who are some of your favorite accessories and jewelry designers?
PL: I am very democratic and love most of them! I am constantly looking for younger designers to support and on the high end you can never go wrong with Chanel Fine Jewelry!
B: Is there a piece of jewelry you’ve put on a client for the red carpet that was so amazing you still think about to this day?
PL: The Chanel pearl earrings Rose wore to the Oscars in 2013.
B: Who are you excited to see on the red carpet this awards season? Who do you think just nails it every time?
PL: Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton!
